Part 1/2: LOVE
I’m super excited to share with you a new song and video that I made! But first, a little context. Songs often spring from a place of tension. And these days when I read the news, I often feel like I’m throwing my hands up in the air with frustration. I’m guessing that’s something that a lot of us if not most of us are feeling no matter what your views may be. And it’s left me with a suitcase full of questions. I wrote Think of Me Love (video below) in reaction to feeling like I might be buried under that overwhelm. I saw those closest to me also scrambling for a way to make sense of it all and to stay productive and positive. I wrote it searching for a way to stay afloat and to feel LOVE in my heart again. That’s one of the amazing things about music. It can restore us back to our natural, non-twisted up pure selves when we need it most.
I want to say a huge thanks to the entire production team as well as the supremely talented Gabriel Lit and Halley Bondy who performed with me live on Think of Me Love. Enjoy the video! And feel free to download the mp3 version as well. I’m giving it away so just click below and grab it. And if you feel moved by the track or just generally want to do something positive, I would really encourage you to consider supporting an organization that I think you will find to be deeply inspiring. A group of miracle workers who are transforming lives through the power of music. (See Part 2)
Part 2/2: ACTION
Actionplay is a New York City based organization that works with kids and teens on the autism spectrum and helps them express themselves through music and performance. Gabriel Lit, who you can see playing bass clarinet in Think of Me Love, is their Artistic Director. I was first exposed to Actionplay when I had a chance to see an original musical that he wrote with these kids: the story, lyrics, music was all worked on by the participants and they performed it themselves as well. It was beautiful. It was heartfelt. Exuberant. I had never seen anything like it. And they continue to blow me away. They have recorded an album, performed multiple times on national television and have created an incredible community.
The team at Actionplay operate from the heart and their work is a testament to the power of art to change lives. I find their work deeply uplifting and I think you will too. Please check out the videos below to see the powerful impact they are making and consider contributing to their indiegogo campaign so that they can continue this great work.
Watch Actionplay participant Natalie do an impromptu heart wrenching performance of “Hallelujah”:
Natalie sings "Hallelujah" at the Actionplay Holiday Party
At the Actionplay Holiday party on Sunday, Natalie jumped up and asked our Music Director Gabriel to accompany her on the guitar for an impromptu performance (turned sing-along) of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Watch and enjoy. Because it is joyful and creative moments like this that make our Actionplay community so special. Please donate here so we can create more program and performance opportunities for Natalie and her friends. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/actionplay-music-autism#/ #autism #artsaccess #actionplay #actionplaychorusPosted by Actionplay on Tuesday, December 5, 2017
